For most couples, their engagement session is their first time in front of a professional camera. It is nerve racking and exciting all at once as it should be! You just got engaged and these photos mark such a special moment in your love story. So many times I get asked by couples on suggests on what to wear for their sessions. If you are an #AKCouple you will actually receive my complete style guide for your engagement session! Today I am going to give you a couple of my favorite tips to make your engagement session timeless!
1. For Her: Say Yes to the Dress
Wear the dress! Did you know that long flowy dresses can flatter every body type? It goes with the natural shape of your body and photographs extremely well. Whether it is a dress from your closet already or maybe you want to go all out and get a red carpet dress, you only get engaged once! Maybe you want to add a new permanent piece to your closet or maybe you just want to rent it for your shoot. Check out LuLus or Rent the Runway!
2. Soft Colors
I personally think if you follow any of these tips, this one if probably the most important. Choosing your outfit colors can make all the difference in your photos. Picking soft muted tones look really well on us and can photograph well at any location. If you decide to go with a pop of color make sure that your fiance wears something more soft and neutral to balance it out. Blushes, greys, and soft blues are great places to start.
3. Golden Hour
Plan your session 2 hours before sunset! It is the best time of the day to get dreamy light for your session! Plus, if you live in a hot state like me (Florida), it is also nice so it won’t be so hot for you during your session.
4. For Him: Layers
I think everyone can agree that men look so dapper in a suit! Adding a jacket is a great idea for the guys! It is flattering and allows for different looks within just one outfit. The guy’s outfit can really set the tone of the session. So why not dress him up, cause ladies we know how sharp the guys look all dressed up in a nice suit jacket. Am i right!?
5. Accessorize
There is nothing that I love more then when my couples bring fun accessories to their session! You can always style up your session with a fresh bouquet or Prosecco! Maybe a vintage bike or items for a picnic. It really can let your style and personality shine through in the little details and can make your photos look more editorial! Also, don’t forget about your furbabies! They are a part of your family too, so don’t be afraid to include them in part of your session!
